Diep.io is an .io tank shooter where you start as a basic cannon, shoot geometric shapes to gain XP, invest stat points across eight attributes, and evolve through specialized tank classes as you level up.

How Diep.io Works

An .io game with actual build depth — that's Diep.io.

Most .io games are pure reaction — dodge, shoot, grow. Diep.io adds a stat investment layer on top. Every few levels you get skill points to distribute across health regen, max health, body damage, bullet speed, bullet penetration, bullet damage, reload speed, and movement speed. Eight stats, and how you weight them determines what kind of tank you're building.

At level 15, your tank class branches. You can stay basic or start evolving into Twin, Sniper, Machine Gun, Flank Guard, or Overseer paths. Each branch has further evolutions at level 30 and 45. A Sniper becomes an Assassin or Stalker. A Twin becomes a Triple Shot or Penta Shot. The class tree is wide enough that two players at the same level can have completely different strengths.

The loop is: farm shapes to level, hit a class evolution choice, spend stat points, adjust your playstyle to match your new class. It sounds complex but the on-screen level-up prompts make it legible even on your first run.

Multiple game modes give you different contexts to test builds. FFA is the purest test of your tank against everyone else's. Team modes let you coordinate class composition. Maze adds tight corridors that change how bullets and movement work entirely. Sandbox lets you experiment without pressure.

What Makes Diep.io Different from Other .io Games

The stat system is what separates Diep.io from Agar.io, Slither.io, and most other .io titles. Those games have no meaningful choices — you just get bigger or faster. Diep.io asks you to decide whether you want a glass cannon sniper build or a tanky body-ram build or something in between. The decision matters.

The class evolution system gives you long-term goals to work toward rather than just a size meter to fill. Reaching level 45 and hitting a top-tier class like Overlord or Annihilator actually feels like an achievement.

The game has been around since 2016 and still has active servers, which is a genuine signal of quality for an .io title. Most browser multiplayer games in this genre fade out within a year.
